Greetings 

The Government of Ethiopia continues to march forward despite and because of the uniquely challenging times we are facing as a nation and as a human race. Our generation is confronted with the imperative to carve tools that are mindful of the past and thoughtful of the future. We aspire for the next generation of Ethiopians to see poverty as a distant memory, one that lives only in history books and not as their daily reality. 

We have been hard at work to trim away economic inefficiencies and waste and that has yielded definitive results. However, the old set up will not take us to the future that we envision. The way we produce, exchange and add value needs to be different. This principle has been at the core of the reform program of my administration. 

Such an approach of economic undertakings needs to go beyond simplistic attributions of who should do what; if we leave it to the state to police and for the private sector to produce, neither will achieve the end goal. The state can and should invest in platforms of excellence through which financing and knowledge can flow to the private sector. The state can lead the way by recognizing wealth, in the broadest and most practical ways, so that that we can stand proud and engage capital and knowledge from the rest of the world. The private sector must do its part to make discipline, ethics and integrity become universal norms. 

It is from this conviction that the Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH) was born. 

As the board chairman, I have high hopes and great expectations for EIH. EIH will serve as a platform of excellence which will inspire and push its subsidiary companies to hold themselves to a higher standard, to become preferred partners for international investors, trusted brands for their customers and offer a culture where talent thrives. EIH will apply a modern lens for understanding the vast assets owned by the people of Ethiopia and package them in forms that can leverage investment. 

The task is tremendous, but I have faith in the Board of Directors, in the CEO and the exceptional team of professionals he has assembled. I invite all of you to bring forth open minds and willing hearts to facilitate the success of EIH and the realization of our collective vision of shared prosperity.
